MaRS HealthKick Pitch Competition 2019
As part of MaRS HealthKick Invest 2019, MaRS is inviting top health ventures to participate in the MaRS HealthKick Pitch Competition 2019 on April 2 and 3, where emerging growth ventures in medical devices, pharma & biotech, and digital health will pitch to Canadian and U.S VCs, other investors, c-suite leaders and industry partners.
If you lead an investment-ready life sciences and healthcare startup, submit your application to be a part of the 2019 showcase, which will take place at MaRS Discovery District, 101 College Street, Toronto. In addition, you will have the chance to win up to $25000 in cash prizes as well as in-kind services valued up to $10000 by participating in a business pitch competition.
Since this is a competition, you must fulfill certain entry criteria as set out below and agree to the RULES of the competition.
The MaRS HealthKick Pitch Competition 2019 is a business venture showcase and pitch competition open to startups from across Canada. Selected ventures, will give a five (5) minute presentation on their business, followed by up to five (5) minutes of questions from a panel of judges.
Your company must fall within one of the following Health industry categories:
- Biotechnology and Pharmaceuticals
- Medical Devices and Diagnostics
- Digital Health
You may only enter MaRS HealthKick Pitch Competition 2019 if you are a Canadian-based and incorporated company, with an EIR (Entrepreneur in Residence or Advisor) from a Canadian incubator, accelerator, affiliated with a Canadian academic organization, and/or funding organization.
You must have a genuine interest in:
- An equity investment in your company; and/or
- An industry partnership/licensing opportunity; and/or
- Customer engagement
Finalists will be selected by a panel of reviewers to participate in the venture showcase and pitch competition. Runner-up ventures will be put on a waiting list to participate in the event that one of the selected finalists withdraw.
If you are selected to participate in the showcase and pitch competition you will be invited to a preparatory session to review your pitch.
Applicants and the participants of previous HealthKick Pitch Competitions, including the winners of the pitch competition are welcome to apply again to the MaRS HealthKick Pitch Competition 2019; however, the previous winners will not be eligible to win the $25000 cash prize.
Applicants selected to pitch at the MaRS HealthKick Pitch Competition 2019 will not be eligible to win the $25000 cash prize if,
- They are a biotech/pharma or medical device or diagnostics company, and have had greater than $1 million in revenue from sales of product or services in their last fiscal year, or have raised greater than $3 million dollars in funding from all sources. This does not refer to government research and development grants, or
- They are a health IT company and have had greater than $1 million in revenue from sales of product or services in their last fiscal year, or have raised greater than $2 million dollars in funding from all sources. This does not refer to government research and development grants
Quebec residents may participate in all events related to MaRS HealthKick Pitch Competition 2019 including the pitch, but will not be eligible for the prizes.
Voting and Judging Process
MaRS’ representatives and partners will review, select, in their sole discretion, the MaRS HealthKick Pitch Competition 2019 finalists by Friday, March 15th, 2019.
At the MaRS HealthKick Pitch Competition, a panel of independent judges will rate each venture pitch and select one winner in each industry category. The three finalists will then compete to see who is the final winner at a separate pitch event on the morning of April 3rd.
Opportunity & Prizes
The most important aspect of MaRS HealthKick Pitch Competition 2019 is the opportunity to pitch your venture to investors, potential partners and/or customers. There will also be opportunities to engage attendees in one-on-one partnering sessions on the day of the showcase itself. There will be three finalists, one from each industry category. There will be one final winner who will receive a cash prize of $25000 and in-kind services valued up to $10000. The two runners up will receive in kind services.
