Patrick Hupé completed a bachelor’s degree in biochemistry, followed in 1998 by a master’s in molecular biology at the Université de Montréal. He did research in the laboratory of Dr. Daniel G. Bichet, a nephrologist at Montreal’s Sacré-Cœur hospital, where his work focused on the ancestral mutations of type 1 autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease present in the French Canadian population. In 1998, he joined Hoffmann-LaRoche’s Molecular Biochemistry division where, in 2001, he became national sales manager. In this position, he participated in developing a number of partnerships in the fight against West Nile virus, SARS and MRSA. In 2003, after completing an MBA specializing in International Management at HEC-Montréal, Patrick began his career in the pharmaceutical industry at Pfizer Canada, where his positions included district manager for eastern Quebec, product manager for the marketing of LIPITOR in Canada and customer manager – private sector, for public affairs and stakeholder relations. Since 2009, Patrick has been assigned to many mandates, from which he became the Senior Country Director for the Cardiac & Vascular Group, the biggest Business Unit within Medtronic at the time. More recently, following the acquisition of Covidien, Patrick became the National Senior Director for Health System Strategies and site leader for the Montréal Campus of Medtronic Canada.
